I'm a pretty big fan of the 'girl-turned-mecha' theme in manga style artwork, but this piece in particular is a pretty fun example of the theme. It's also one of the few that I've seen that are drawn off of a photo of a real person.

So let's have a look here. Given that Reami's only requirement was that she be wearing knee socks, the costume design was left pretty open. Overall, the design of her clothes/armor work pretty well-- the legs and shoes especially. There's a nice balance between open space and detail on the armored plates that just feels right. The headgear frames her bangs out nicely and again helps unify the whole drawing. My only complaint are her arms-- they feel a bit cluttered, with a little too much detail trying to fit in a very small space.

Her pose is 'okay'-- I really like that her legs are bent; the higher knee really makes for a more visually exciting drawing. Again, her arm bothers me a bit. It's so stiff, pointing almost straight down. A little bit of a bend at the elbow would probably have gone a long way to making her arm look like its being held a little more naturally.

The way she's holding her sword also seems a bit awkward. There's not really any way to comfortably move something that big out of that position without hurting your arm. If her arm were in front of the sword, and her hand holding onto it with her thumb pointing down the blade instead of resting on the hilt, it'd feel a lot less awkward.

I'm actually a big fan of the off-white color, and think it goes better with the different values of pink used here. Pure white would be too bold, and overwhelm the eyes. The screentoning in the corners forms a nice frame for the piece without taking away from the drawing itself.

Overall, this is a very well-executed piece of art. With a little more attention to how the arms are posed, this could go from great to fantastic. That said, it seems that Reami seems very happy with the picture, and, in this case at least, I think that's probably what matters most. ^^
